Interactive 3D

In mid-2016 it is still quite seldom to be able interact in 3D on a computer, if gaming and specialised software are exluded!

HTML5, and in particular WebGL, are changing that. It is now possible and quite easy to include interactive 3D in presentations or for fun (as is shown below).

3D trout

The image below is an interactive 3D view. click the start button and use your mouse to rotate (left click), zoom (middle button) and pan (right mouse) around the 3D scene.

The 3D trout was modelled using Blender (https://www.blender.org), "the free and open source 3D creation suite". But the problem with Blender is that you end up rendering your scene to an image and there is no way to manipulate that scene in 3D outside Blender itself. So enter Sketchfab (https://sketchfab.com): this web site, after you register (there is a free option), allows you to upload your Blender models to the web and, even better, to embed them in your own web page, as above.

Now imagine what you can do for your next presentation to your BOD*, Cool!
